Let me introduce myself – I am Heleny, a contemporary painter who refuses to let vision loss stop me from creating art. As my vision continues to deteriorate daily, I struggle with tasks that were once effortless—simple tasks like reading and watching TV become more challenging. I struggle to recognise faces on the street, and it breaks my heart that I might come across as rude for not smiling or greeting people.
But you know what? I won’t let my vision loss define me. I refuse to let my visual impairment stop me from pursuing my passion for abstract art. My paintings reflect my innermost emotions and experiences, and each brush stroke is infused with the colours of my heart.
Despite my challenges, I am grateful for the technology that has enabled me to see the world in a new light. Apple’s tools have allowed me to see in high definition, even when my eyes refuse to cooperate. With their help, I can continue creating art that speaks to my soul and connects with others on a deeper level.
I find inspiration in the stories of other artists who have faced similar obstacles and overcome them with grace and perseverance. Sarah, a blind painter, is a perfect example of this. Her legacy lives on as a beacon of hope and inspiration for those who, like me, struggle with vision loss or other disabilities.
Through my art, I aim to inspire others to pursue their passions, no matter their obstacles. Creativity can transcend physical limitations and connect us all on a deeper level. So let us all take inspiration from the artists who have come before us and let our passion for creativity shine through in all we do.
